32' Classic Sparkman & Stephens

Sparkman & Stephens is proud to announce the listing of the classic S&S 32' "Stormy".

There are no words to aptly describe the beauty of "Stormy" with her bright finished topsides. She has been meticulously restored so that every aspect of the boat sparkles.  Originally built as "Poppy" in 1965 and the original owner wanted a boat that combined the beauty of a six meter with a functional interior. The concept was a huge success. "Stormy" is easy to sail and so enjoyable that Olin Stephens went for a sail on her in 2003 during an S&S gathering in Maine.

  • “Manitou” is a 62’ yawl that was designed by Sparkman & Stephens and built 1936 at the M.M. Davis & Son yard at Solomans, Maryland and just completed an almost entire rebuild in the course of the past five years. Her waterline is 44’ and her beam is 13’9”, has a draft of 8’6” and carries some 1700sf of sail area. At the time of construction she was considered one of the finest yachts in her day. Designed after Mr. Olin Stephens experience with the famed “Dorade” and ‘Stormy Weather” she followed the Cruising Club rule, she is a boat of solid construction intended to be able to handle herself smartly in almost any sort of sea-going. She has been a perfect design for extended cruising or ocean racing and has many features, both original and from the refit that make her desirable. She is built with teak planking on deck and Philippine mahogany over oak frames for the hull, note, all deck and topside planking is new.

Manitou has an enviable history both in the spotlight and on the race course. Aristotle Onassis, the Greek multi-millionaire made two attempts to buy the boat back when he was marrying Mrs. John F. Kennedy. President Kennedy was photographed many times behind her still original Herreshoff steering pedestal during his time in office, the President was so fond of this boat he deemed her the “floating Whitehouse”; there are no shortages of stories with Manitou.

Manitou is proven pedigree classic yacht with provenance; her restoration is painstakingly thorough and would satisfy even the most ardent aficionado.

  • 58 ft S&S Palawan III
The first large S&S boat with a rudder separeted from the keel, PALAWAN III was the state of the art in her time. A member of the victorious 1969 US Admiral's Cup Team in Cowes. She is a fast, seakindly boat, and Coast Guard Certified to carry 24 passengers. Currently operating out of Portland, Maine her self tacking jib and spacious decks with cushions make her an ideal day boat. It would be possible for the new owner to continue this business.

    • “Solution” was designed by Sparkman & Stephens and built by Crosby Yacht Building Co. in Osterville, MA in 1939. She has an enviable racing history with the New York Yacht Club, one would find her half model proudly displayed on the walls there. Although “Solution” is seaworthy and sailable right now as she sits, she needs a new owner to complete the restoration that the current owner has begun. Currently she is hauled for winter storage and can be viewed by any interested party. Her general condition is good; all sound wood with no detectable rot or odors below – she retains her beautiful shape. She has all new wiring and a soundly mounted Perkins 4-108 for power and several new bilge pumps with alarms. The head has been replaced along with all the plumbing and a new custom copper floor pan. The spruce rig is completely intact and in good working order with sound standing rigging, the rig also has all new wiring and the sails are recent. The current owners, brothers, enjoy the boat but want to find someone who has the resources to complete her in a proper loving fashion. She is a pedigree girl with a well known history and certainly an important boat in the history of yachting. If you are looking for a renowned and recognized classic American yacht, SOLUTION would be a perfect candidate despite her needing a facelift. She is an eye catcher right now.
